چکیده

Since Miller and Miller first published their classic paper on the protein-bound azo dye in the liver of animals subjected to this type of experi mental carcinogenesis (7), many observations have accumulated to correlate this aspect of the process with the carcinogenicity of the particular azo dye (8, 9). Recently, Griffin and co-workers (5) have shown that removal of the pituitary gland blocks carcinogenesis by the azo dye 3'-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene (3'-Me-DAB), which under

Effect of antioxidant vitamins A, C, E and their analogues on azo-dye binding protein in liver of rats treated with p-dimethylaminoazobenzene.

p-Dimethylaminoazobenzene (DAB) is an azo-dye and known to cause liver tumour in rats. Azo-dye binding protein is a specific cytosolic protein involved in the translocation of azo-dye carcinogen metabolites from liver cytoplasm into the nucleus. Administration of vitamin A (40,000 and 50,000 IU), L-ascorbic acid (500 and 1000 mg) and vitamin E succinate (200-500 mg) reduced the amount of azo-dy...

Electrophoretic changes in proteins from livers of rats fed 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene.

INTRODUCTION Miller and Miller (3) showed that the carcino genic dye, 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene, is firmly bound to protein constituents of the rat liver. Such protein-binding reaches a maximum after 4-6 weeks on the azo diet, whereas the neoplasm arises several weeks later. Moreover, the neoplastic tis sue contains essentially no protein-bound dye. Hence, Miller and Miller (3) have postulated ...

Tissue Proteins and Carcinogenesis

It has been known that certain azo dyes will produce cancer of the liver. During the precancerous stages the liver appears to undergo some definite changes. The activity of these azo dye carcinogens is influenced by several dietary factors. Thus the liver can be protected partiahy from the effects of the dye by simultaneous intake of increased amounts of riboflavin (1). This conforms with the f...

Further observations on the role of the pituitary and the adrenal gland in azo dye carcinogenesis.

Several investigators have observed that the pituitary exerts an effect on carcinogenesis and also on the growth of tumors. Ferguson and Visscher (1) found that hypophysectomy pre vented the development of postcastration adrenal cortical nodular hyperplasia in C3H mice. Moon and associates (7-9) reported that the administra tion of growth hormone to female rats (LongEvans strain) resulted in tu...

The relation between experimental liver carcinoma and liver cirrhosis induced by simultaneous administration of p-dimethylaminoazobenzene and carbon tetrachloride.

The effect of simultaneous administration of p-dimethylaminoazobenzene (D.A.B.) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) was experimentally studied on rats. 1) The morphological changes in the early stage of simultaneous administration of D.A.B. and CCl4 were characterized by an earlier appearance of cholangiofibrosis or of liver cirrhosis than in those produced by D.A.B. or CCl4 alone. 2) Simultaneous ...
